Artist's Statement
I have been painting all my adult life as a South Asian female artist. I have had the unique experience of being immersed into the Eastern cultures of India and Western cultures of Canada.
Having had the opportunity to experience two such unique cultures, I have realized the similarities that exist between people. This evolution in my understanding helped me see that human emotions cross all boundaries; grief, sorrow, joy, pain, and suffering are emotions felt by all humans. My art which is primarily figurative, attempts to capture these universal human emotions. Many of my paintings express these emotions in the context of political events, such as the series I have done on Abu Ghraib with figurative drawings. The prime mover of creativity of all my art is in the soul of the figure. The soul guides in creating timeless form.
In the words of world renowned artist Ali Imam, "Kiran has profound technical ability and a considerable completeness of control and expression". He continues, "Kiran's works have life, not only through what they represent, but through her effects and colour vibrations which attempts to make visible her sensitivity and mature handling".
I have worked and exhibited with world renowned artists Sadequain, Bashir Mirza and Ali Imam. Needless to say, they have had a profound influence in my works. Recently, I had the honour to have myworks displayed with M.F Husain, Akbar Padamsee and Suhas Roy in Mumbai.
I hope through this website, I can share the inner feelings of my soul. Enjoy!
